Rekindled Dream

I did it! I had my meeting with the Executive Director of the BC Arts Council. The meeting turned out not how I thought it would be. I originally anticipated that I would be the one asking all the questions and that she would tell me her life story so I can pick out pointers for myself. Instead, from the minute we sat down, she had me talking about myself. The conversation turned into just the right amount of ego booster to the self-esteem crisis I had been having. In that however brief opportunity that I told her about my background, she complimented me in always being able to find work in my field and that it was a good indication that I have the skills, personality and qualities that people like and need regardless of the type of community.  Then she went straight to talking about their organizational structure and that another great thing about me is I already know about what it's like because I've had experience working for a crown corporation, which is very similar and co...

Consciousness

Last week, I watched myself exhibit the results of being stressed out. I've always been good at managing my stress and for the most part nobody could even tell because I carry stress that well. Last week I flipped out on the cable guy, I sat in choir silently criticizing everything and not wanting to sing, I even started to think that I didn't want to come back to sing next year at all! When the things that make me happy all of a sudden don't, it's a red flag and usually means it requires an action. For the past two months, I had become irritable, unmotivated, exhausted and I started making little errors here and there that I normally wouldn't. My focus has been out of whack, my work quality slipping... It's just unacceptable.  I'm happy with myself that I have the guts to admit that there's something wrong with me. I think for once I can safely self-diagnose myself that I'm officially stressed out. I'd been so tired I actually considered walking...

Because it wasn't enough that I came home late at night after choir practice, singing songs I don't even understand, I had to come home to this note on my door. Our effing tenant moved out of the basement suite and when he disconnected his cable and internet, he disconnected ours along with his. Well, not him personally but the idiot technician who didn't know any better. It's Eduardo's first night away. It was supposed to be a productive evening, where I can put Netflx on and then work away in peace without anyone bugging me to turn the lights off or telling me to go to sleep because it's late. It was supposed to be one of those relaxing nights where I don't have to get stressed about falling asleep at the same time as everyone else. I was supposed to be productive! But no, that was not in the cards. Thanks to Billy. Stupid Billy the technician. I had never called anyone at midnight and left an angry voicemail before. Serves him right for leaving his phone#...

Mojo Search

Ok so my high hopes that my first day of work for the month of March would bring such great vibes, shattered first thing this morning.  The job. The one that ok, took me a whole month to apply for, I found out that they've already chosen a candidate and is negotiating with her already. Even though on the posting the deadline isn't until the end of the month!  Ok, so I screwed up. The voice of wisdom shared by some of whom I whined to, said that if I had wanted that job badly enough, I would have done everything I could to find time to apply for it. But again, I just came from the battlefield called February, that whole month was just absolute hell! Had I actually applied during that time, my cover letter would've said, "Dear HR Person, since you're an international organization, my impression is that most of your patrons are from all over the world and will therefore won't subject me to planning endless special events that take up most of my year. If that's...

March!!!

OMG I can't even begin to tell you how absolutely thrilled and ecstatic I am that February is over. It's March -- and I survived! I celebrated the end of February by going to an all-day genealogical workshop, which I know is the dorkiest reason to get me out of bed early on a Saturday morning especially since I came from yet another work event the night before. But I can't tell you how pumped I was to be there and was really inspired by the research done by others. I was so inspired, I started daydreaming of one day going home to the Philippines and actually piggy-back a research trip with it. Yes, me contemplating a trip back home. A thought that never once made me excited in the last 15 years! I also got so inspired, I signed up to volunteer to index -- transcribing birth certificates and obituaries on an ongoing basis for the Family History Centre. It's not rocket science at all and a really good way to pass time since I can do it anytime at home, whenever it's c...
